28 Liberty Street
Bath, New York 14810
607-776-8040
The anchor around which Bath hopes to rebuild its
business district is the popular
Chat-a-Whyle
restaurant
at 28 Liberty Street.
Owned since 1993 by John and Joyce Loza,
the restaurant's trademark sticky buns -- which
have brought such film celebrities as
Hedy Lamarr
and Claude Akins to the eatery --were popularized
in a 1976 book by Henry Dormann about the world's
best food and lodging. Made from a secret recipe,
the butter-soaked, caramel-covered buns were
invented by the restaurant's former owner,
Floyd "Popeye" Margeson,
who died in 1982.
